DRAMATIC CALL DURING "CHI L'HA VISTO" OF SEAMEN SEIZED ON SAVINA CAYLYN: "WE ARE SICK, HELP US!"
News report by Gennaro Savio, translation by Claudio Buttinelli
"The situation here is critical. People are starting to have panic attacks and can no longer sleep at night. You must understand that we sleep on the floor and the floor is always wet. The bathroom is outside and we do not wash anymore. We have five of the crew who are on the ground, three Italians and two Indians. We turn once more to all political forces, the company and all the Italian people so that this sad and tragic story can be closed as soon as possible without an unnecessary shedding of human lives. We are honest workers, innocent persons who found to be prisoners. It is now nine months and we have not committed any illegal act. We ask you for forcing your consciences and to bring us home, to our families. Unfortunately, the situation here is not yet clarified, and the company is silent for a bit' of time".
With these dramatic words Antonio Verrecchia, one of the Italian seamen seized for nine months on board of the ship "Savina Caylyn", from the Horn of Africa along with his fellow prisoners has practically broken the news blackout asked some weeks ago by relatives of the hostages. With the consent of the Somali pirates, the Chief Engineer Antonio Verrecchia and the First Officer Eugenio Bon, have called the Editorial Office of Site "Libero Reporter" and talked with the Director Gaetano Baldi to which they have pointed out that now long since the situation is stalled, that their living conditions continue to be critical and that five seamen would have been brought to the Mainland with all the serious risks that this entails. But the really incredible thing is that Antonio Verrecchia and Eugenio Bon intervened on live phone to "Chi L'ha Visto?", the very followed broadcast aired on Rai Tre and hosted by journalist Federica Sciarelli to which they have confirmed all that said a few hours before to the Director of "Libero Reporter" Gaetano Baldi.

And on live telephone we have interviewed just Gaetano Baldi while he was in the Termini Station of Rome waiting for going to Milan.
"We were able finally to have this opportunity. It was not absolutely easy to organize the live phone with Rai Tre, but it was important to do because we have succeeded in bringing this tragedy to millions Italians and I think that this is the most important thing. Now it is up to the main actors at least to get a move on so that this matter may finally resolved. As have said us the chief engineer Verrecchia, the two Procida men, the Captain Lavadera and Second Officer Guardascione have been landed along with Cesareo and other two Indians. The conditions of imprisonment on the ground are worse than those on the ship. But the greatest danger for those who have been landed is that they can be sold among gang and therefore you could lose control of the situation. We say that there is every reason so that all is hurried on to carry out this sad affair".
And to think that in recent weeks, after the public statements made by Foreign Minister Frattini, there seemed to have every reason so that the dramatic pretext could be concluded positively and instead after nine long months, our countrymen are still forced to have to live in a infernal situation of extreme hardship and danger: absurd!

The hope, of course, is that all the Italian and Indian seamen seized on the "Savina Caylyn" and "Rosalia D'Amato" may soon be returning home.
